That happened 5 years ago. <br />
<br />
Last year I started quilting and fell in love with the whole process. So I started to blog about it to keep track for myself of what I was doing and what I had done.<br />
<br />
So I've decided to use the M&JAltomare blog for family stuff and start a new blog to keep track of my quilting fun.<br />
<br />
So I have started <a href="http://www.cocoaquilts.com/">Cocoa Quilts</a> If you would like to follow along, please head over there and start to follow me.<br />
<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I picked up some fat quarters at AQS on Saturday, when I picked up my machine. I had the yellow and white left over. So I wanted something quick and decided on <a href="http://bijoulovely.bigcartel.com/product/colorblock-quilt-pattern">Bijou Lovely Color Block pattern</a>, I used this pattern for my first and second quilts.<br />

I decided to get some labels and start labeling my quilts. Once I decided that I wanted to label my quilts I knew I needed a name. So I looked at my daily shadow and thought Cocoa Quilts. So here is Cocoa, she is a senior, 14 years old in November, Hungarian Vizsla. Now that I have started to use Cocoa Quilts, I need to figure out how to change my blog name. That is for another day.</div>

Got back from vacation and did the binding on one of my unfinished quilts. <br />
<br />
Before I headed out on vacation, I returned my (not really mine, it was on loan) Viking Platinum 930 to my sister. She had loaned it to me last winter. <br />
<br />
I've known I wanted to get a new machine, but just couldn't decide. So AQS was coming to Grand Rapids, MI, which is about an hour from home. So I decided that would be the best time to get a new machine.<br />
<br />
You all know how tough deciding on a new machine can be. Of course, you can't check the pricing on line, other than how much others have said they paid through internet searches, which takes a lot of time. The local shops that sell machines I was interested in are about an hour from home, so it was plan to go check them out.<br />
<br />
I narrowed the choices down to the Viking Platinum 960 or 965Q, BabyLock Crescendo or the Janome 9400QCP. I really wanted the 10" plus for the throat, also wanted the thread cutter, stitch lock, foot down. Wasn't as sure on the mass amount of stitches, but would be great to try them out. So I made a day and drove to the two shops that carried these brands, luckily they were about 1/2 mile from each other. <br />
<br />
Went to <a href="http://www.gallsewingvac.com/">http://www.gallsewingvac.com/</a> first and checked out the Janome and talked with Becky. Really liked this machine, the auto threader was great. The pull out LED light was very nice. But if any one knows me, they know I am cheap, so price did not make me happy. I knew an approximate price before going to visit, but as one of my former CFO favorite money phrases was "My pocket is better than yours".<br />
<br />
Then it was on to <a href="http://www.lakeshoresewing.com/">http://www.lakeshoresewing.com/</a> and met with Carol. She walked me through the Platinum 960Q and the BabyLock Crescendo. As we all know the price on the Vikings are less than the both the BabyLock and the Janome. Carol even unboxed a new Platinum 965Q, which is replacing the 960Q, and we walked through that machine (couldn't really find any difference between the two machines). The BabyLock laser pen was very interesting.<br />
<br />
Both of these ladies and both dealers were great! <br />
<br />
So got the AQS show prices on each of the machines and spent about two weeks scouring the net for reviews and problems on each of the machines. At this point I was leaning toward the Janome, but that little voice kept saying "My pocket is better than yours".<br />
<br />
Hubby knew I was looking at machines, but had no idea of their price. So as I was fairly sure I was going with the Janome, we started talking about me seriously getting a new machine. When he asked the cost, I told him it was about the same as three hunting guns. How can he question that? When he asks to get a new gun, I always say if you will use it and it will make you happy, go ahead. You know what goes around comes around, so he said if you'll use and it will make you happy, go ahead.<br />
<br />
I was signed up for a FMQ class (my first) at AQS and the machines we would be using were the Janome 9400, so I was excited to work on this machine. <br />
<br />
Once we finished the class, I went down and bought one of the classroom machines,<br />
<br />
So here is a pic of my new baby, what shall we name her?<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Well we are off to Charleston, SC to visit family, celebrate my Aunt's 90th birthday and my 60th this week, so until next week. I'll be a sewing fool once I'm back.Jan @Cocoa Quiltshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03500819600904541895noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5278900523403574012.post-81936227167060180572016-07-29T14:51:00.001-04:002016-10-06T15:03:21.897-04:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So now that we are back from vacation, it was time to get back onto my works in progress. First up is Quilt #16 that I started at the Quilt Retreat I went to just before vacation.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I did the jelly roll race 2 from Missouri Star Quilt Company for a quick top. Once I got home and before we headed out on vacation, I got everything but the binding done. So one evening this week I finished up the binding.</div>

It was a trip of a lifetime to Alaska. So I thought I would share some of the highlights with each of you. We flew from Detroit to Anchorage and stayed the night before heading out for our Denali land tour.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaBjifXF7QStrdRivSRoy-Pg0yR30215ChLbwNhuYvA965nY3UPdX9a0Z_eryLlCYJ3qFi_sGz1kc_rfzs7nE63PoWk_B4Dql0XW9v3WvhcprJnnQEjen6adRbytCpj0QbnIvFWMHtcVwx/s1600/IMG_1655.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaBjifXF7QStrdRivSRoy-Pg0yR30215ChLbwNhuYvA965nY3UPdX9a0Z_eryLlCYJ3qFi_sGz1kc_rfzs7nE63PoWk_B4Dql0XW9v3WvhcprJnnQEjen6adRbytCpj0QbnIvFWMHtcVwx/s320/IMG_1655.JPG" width="320" /></a>This is probably my favorite shot of Denali. It was breathtaking and right out our rooms window.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We did fishing tour in the Chilkoot Lake. It was gorgeous, as well as private. We didn't see anyone else on the lake until a few kayakers showed up on a tour. While I was the only one to catch a fish, I couldn't get it into the boat. He broke the line first.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But the coolest fisherman on our trip was this Eagle. His fish was too big for him to fly with so he had to swim to shore with his fish for lunch. I didn't know that Eagles swam. It was a great site.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of our other ports we did a Whale Watching tour. It was quite amazing. We saw the whales bubble net feeding. I had to look this up to really understand. Bubble Net Feeding is a unique feeding technique employed by Humpback Whales, in which a group of whales swim in a shrinking circle blowing bubbles below the a school of fish. This shrinking column of bubbles surrounds the fish forcing the upward. The wales spontaneously swim upward through the bubble net, mouths wide open, catching thousands of fish in one gulp.</div>

Hubby had some issues, but all is well now. We are heading to Alaska this weekend for a land and cruise. It is our first time there and can't wait to relax and enjoy the beauty of the land.<br />
<br />
But before I go, I wanted to get this Coin Quilt top finished. I didn't want any project left waiting.<br />

One of my friends from high school (Class of '74) invited me and I don't get to see her very often so it was a great treat. Thanks to my friend Donna for inviting me and her sister, Jan, who hosted this retreat. It was a great time.<br />
<br />
I started Quilts #16 and #17. It is killing me to have three quilts in the making. I like to do one at a time. But here is #16. I did <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9w9UOFj0CSo">Jelly Roll Race 2</a> over at Missouri Star Quilting Company. <br />
<br />
<img alt="NEW NEW Moda Precuts Jelly Roll #19700JR "HO HO HO" 100% cotton 2-1/2" Strips" src="https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NjQyWDc3NA==/z/pScAAOSwJMhXDmVp/$_35.JPG?set_id=880000500F" /><br />
<br />
It went quite quick. I went straight off the roll and am not sure I'm crazy about how it came out. There were several strips that ended up next to each other on the top. But lessons learned, it will make a great gift.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That was Saturday morning's project. I wasn't in the mood to iron and finish, so I started another.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Quilt #17 is born.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used <a href="http://shequiltsalot.com/layer-cake-coin-quilt/">Layer Cake Coin Quilt from She Quilts Alot</a>. This is the same pattern I used for Quilt #8.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used Flow Zen Chic by Moda.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<img src="https://img1.etsystatic.com/139/0/6758696/il_570xN.924325997_gidt.jpg" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Started cutting and sewing back together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So now I have three in progress quilts. Making me crazy. My goal for the next two weeks is to get these done. We head off to Alaska two weeks from today and I"d love to have all project done before I go.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm off to cut and iron. No wait should I go make a sandwich for one of the Christmas quilts. Oh, I'm not sure, but I do know I'm off to work on something.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Headed over and picked her up.<br />

My machine just didn't want to go over the seams. So I fought with it and tried all kinds of things, even taking out my old Kenmore. So in frustration, I decided to start a another quilt and put this one aside for now.<br />
<br />
So here is my #15. Merry Christmas. I wanted something quick, so I pulled out some scrap Christmas charms that I got from somewhere.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgthFbY5eOnN-Umx88uU0MhLzoCKtszr2XUjLVVexn9F1Mi2X3H18XSMpRX3bCwxS-mhCp8V6JPyKhh7i8xGubwosNmWbeE0B3PrB_xBlFgm4hCC2ZFRhcVwmuuXMpELm0uR_mR-s25l15n/s1600/IMG_1570%255B1%255D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgthFbY5eOnN-Umx88uU0MhLzoCKtszr2XUjLVVexn9F1Mi2X3H18XSMpRX3bCwxS-mhCp8V6JPyKhh7i8xGubwosNmWbeE0B3PrB_xBlFgm4hCC2ZFRhcVwmuuXMpELm0uR_mR-s25l15n/s320/IMG_1570%255B1%255D.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So now I'm trying to decide sashing or no sashing. You know I can't make a decision. I think I'll sleep on it.</div>

I don't like to have things unfinished, so this one bugged me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjzg2O8vv3YQccL4MuCqZi0vWIdccYEsG5cSIzOg2gA5R0L7P9EOAq95SMa7C6pVTzlO6aq_MLtjuKC643UJciSo8gdDZdpHlXIyXEaj9wKGs4zBmwxysrsVB5Mxm31YFjPsZ9cVgSGvo5/s1600/IMG_1550.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjzg2O8vv3YQccL4MuCqZi0vWIdccYEsG5cSIzOg2gA5R0L7P9EOAq95SMa7C6pVTzlO6aq_MLtjuKC643UJciSo8gdDZdpHlXIyXEaj9wKGs4zBmwxysrsVB5Mxm31YFjPsZ9cVgSGvo5/s320/IMG_1550.JPG" width="240" /></a>I have to get better at the pictures, just laying them out flat isn't very interesting. So I will try to work on that, but this is a done project.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn5HQlfK-FdbnO4s0CtWriMGp6Symd5k079BlXUtZHTBo5w5eaP_DS6onYa9AU6TWCF197qosXp64jK42xczajRUH2crjsTmNlx6DkHi_RPxGumwsAJ56_weDSRPRhp5C4mpWC_A5zqjQK/s1600/IMG_1551.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn5HQlfK-FdbnO4s0CtWriMGp6Symd5k079BlXUtZHTBo5w5eaP_DS6onYa9AU6TWCF197qosXp64jK42xczajRUH2crjsTmNlx6DkHi_RPxGumwsAJ56_weDSRPRhp5C4mpWC_A5zqjQK/s320/IMG_1551.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Of course, I didn't realize this until I had completed the quilting. Beginner focus, focus on the one thing, quilting and don't notice the bigger issue of fabric not completely covering the batting.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjmxiKw0E1uI44Pg-rLbbat4agHGrqq4XcYxDasvhsFB4it6pCWRuiFC37TqCbKFK-Q0haKKTfbcoYy2r9fzCObMCselkisKpJOA1PZ8-clXerfIuKG-qj_d4cn3AslMcxdzXNRu0j2zf2/s1600/IMG_1553.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjmxiKw0E1uI44Pg-rLbbat4agHGrqq4XcYxDasvhsFB4it6pCWRuiFC37TqCbKFK-Q0haKKTfbcoYy2r9fzCObMCselkisKpJOA1PZ8-clXerfIuKG-qj_d4cn3AslMcxdzXNRu0j2zf2/s320/IMG_1553.JPG" width="320" /></a>So the solution was to make a binding that was wider on the back than the front. I didn't turn out to bad. I learned 2 things with this finish. ALWAYS check twice on the fabric backing to be sure it is correct size and I don't like a wide binding. It doesn't look bad, but just not my first choice.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But here is #11 done and waiting for a home. Not sure who, but I will be giving this one a new home, which was my plan all along.</div>

I bought this last winter and decided I was brave enough to open it up and pull out some fabric for my next quilt.<br />
<br />
It is Kate Spain, Canyon.<br />

Then off to my niece. I can't believe how it turned out. I really like it, more than I thought I would.<br />
<br />
I used a black charm pack as well as a red one. Then picked up three different fabrics that had a nursing reference and cut my own charms. I was really rather easy. I've always used pre-cuts, so this was stretching myself. <br />
<br />
I need to get better pictures, the kitchen counter isn't the best spot.<br />

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I stole the stripe binding from <a href="http://www.redpepperquilts.com/">Red Pepper Quilts</a>. I always love her striped bindings. At first I had planned to wrap the backing around for the binding. But that just didn't look right. So I headed to the Dime Store in town and they had this great fabric. Loved it as soon as I got it home. I think it was a great choice.</div>

I picked up the backing at Joann's. I'm always concerned of Joann's, as one time I picked up a solid there and it wasn't very nice. It picked up all the lint in the house and just looked messy. I picked this from their Premium Quilting fabric, when they had a 60% coupon. I love it. It is very soft and cuddly.<br />

She is a great lady. Was a single mom in her 30's and she had always wanted to be a nurse. So she set her goals and went for them. All at the same time as raising her son.<br />
<br />
She is working at a Detroit hospital on the night shift in the ER. It is a tough place with lots of action, so no soft nursing work for her.<br />
<br />
To show her how proud we are of her, I decided to do a quilt for her. Her are the fabrics I have<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuHw1SFNGdNq6MoyK64UyNi3rxw8oA1RI1Stz-n8cb06lzLYxPHBiYk2Pee88dj8k_WGchWoluPiljg4ARE7P_d_X_Omzb1zogdTRq9PHhGv2O-00SVT-UVcccEw_r73YHSS5VryKLVMPL/s1600/IMG_1501.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuHw1SFNGdNq6MoyK64UyNi3rxw8oA1RI1Stz-n8cb06lzLYxPHBiYk2Pee88dj8k_WGchWoluPiljg4ARE7P_d_X_Omzb1zogdTRq9PHhGv2O-00SVT-UVcccEw_r73YHSS5VryKLVMPL/s320/IMG_1501.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

So off to make a plan and get started. Here is to Lucky #13.Jan @Cocoa Quiltshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03500819600904541895noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5278900523403574012.post-85672238156376051102016-05-31T10:30:00.003-04:002016-05-31T10:31:07.573-04:00Quilt #10 FinishedOk, I know that I'm going backwards in my numbering, but I finally got the backing for my Christmas quilt.<br />
<br />
So I was able to put it together and quilt. This was my first try to do binding on my machine. It wasn't too bad. This was my practice run for binding as I need to do the binding on my Cutting Corners (Quilt #11). It is a much bigger quilt, so this was my test run. <br />
<br />
I think this turned out pretty cute. I like the double quilting on the squares. I might use this for the next quilt too.<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHr3QHZcNxM1bQcQT1q-0xzcBc2dNyYpepXI6Qb0UI8kCW8x28hU9UQjIcpxFpqAQtC1RG0BWAzzXgNWzqxyUvw2RxTWa_L7SjBguVG24KHGLdhYnkBxEPHPRu9psE6eVmGgjZi47is102/s1600/IMG_1472%255B1%255D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHr3QHZcNxM1bQcQT1q-0xzcBc2dNyYpepXI6Qb0UI8kCW8x28hU9UQjIcpxFpqAQtC1RG0BWAzzXgNWzqxyUvw2RxTWa_L7SjBguVG24KHGLdhYnkBxEPHPRu9psE6eVmGgjZi47is102/s200/IMG_1472%255B1%255D.JPG" width="150" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I ended up going with the one on the top. Over the weekend I got the top put together and then moved on yesterday to the back.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Once I had my sandwich done, it was on to quilting. If you've seen my past quilts, I am a straight line girl.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I ended up with this quilting on the back. I surprised myself, as I didn't even think it would look this nice on the back.</div>

As a beginning quilter and looking at some of the quilts done, mine are definitely a simple patterns and simple quilting.<br />
<br />
Here they are. The first one is just a basic HST. Which is becoming my favorite.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRbuPFx83wRLmEJpF48fzuQ4n5WC2LMknMcfhgmUVKbOLTWqfiotzV07LlxGC37NMIO_jC9N4OQtyqEERohf5LWrYqunPtiyqPc2wc7qrr53M_dsrZa6i_uUfKGlZTR97oMQsfLXLmZiLz/s1600/IMG_1413%255B1%255D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRbuPFx83wRLmEJpF48fzuQ4n5WC2LMknMcfhgmUVKbOLTWqfiotzV07LlxGC37NMIO_jC9N4OQtyqEERohf5LWrYqunPtiyqPc2wc7qrr53M_dsrZa6i_uUfKGlZTR97oMQsfLXLmZiLz/s320/IMG_1413%255B1%255D.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And the second one is a coin quilt, using some of the leftovers for the back.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1xDnDyRZoDeVpYpFV_FqDmlMY6_Z4MlK0O1Y76fYvD5kcQKITm2RdtQYrpacILpuaShzksa50zE3NatbDbqcCVSGPv9XXvsiS-vD97Mf61NZVvfKB5GvTIsVO_JGeNMfH3mtgVXRGWtGD/s1600/IMG_1399%255B1%255D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1xDnDyRZoDeVpYpFV_FqDmlMY6_Z4MlK0O1Y76fYvD5kcQKITm2RdtQYrpacILpuaShzksa50zE3NatbDbqcCVSGPv9XXvsiS-vD97Mf61NZVvfKB5GvTIsVO_JGeNMfH3mtgVXRGWtGD/s320/IMG_1399%255B1%255D.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikUhw1LnMGYQA2O2C2qz9vrUky89koeajFjcbc4N6Nvcfr-mM7Ex-c4ZFZ-CY2xcSwi1bPAPam8W_NL4Q36qdAp8CjqTA2p0jOwlwLdIcFdgD95BitfIeOISxu8bu8uDga2ByRr1yZeN06/s1600/IMG_1400%255B1%255D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikUhw1LnMGYQA2O2C2qz9vrUky89koeajFjcbc4N6Nvcfr-mM7Ex-c4ZFZ-CY2xcSwi1bPAPam8W_NL4Q36qdAp8CjqTA2p0jOwlwLdIcFdgD95BitfIeOISxu8bu8uDga2ByRr1yZeN06/s320/IMG_1400%255B1%255D.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hoping someone will truly enjoy these, as much as I enjoyed making and sharing them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
First up I was working on my Cutting Corners quilt and got the top completed. <br />

<div style="text-align: right;">
Here is the backing I am going to use. So I start to put my back together and figure out (should have known) it isn't big enough. So I head into town to our Quilt Shop for some white to add to the back. They only have 1 3/4 yards of white in the shop. I take it. </div>

I pick up the cute stripe, but when I get home, I don't like it with the top. Should have taken the top with me, but didn't think I would be getting any Christmas fabric. Remember I was only running up to get a piece of white. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So now I still need a backing for this Christmas quilt and I now have some for the stash. That stash sure does built up fast.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Then I came across this very cute, light and airy fabric from Camelot Fabrics, called The Beach House. It was so cute, it had to come home with me. </div>

It was rainy, snowy, windy and cold off the lake and no mushrooms were found. I'm not a mushroom fan, but would have like to have picked some for DH.<br />

It isn't the norm, Hubby has been gone all week and coming home tomorrow. So then I'll be back to less quilting time.<br />
<br />
So before he gets home, I'm starting my eleventh quilt. I saw the Cutting Corners featured on Missouri Star Quilting Youtube channel and since I love HSTs, decided this would be #11.<br />
<br />
I am using Grow.<br />
<br />

<img height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWOu3kJbp3qYC__Z6y_tVW6Ex3vwXAIVO_aauhVQrIhOmzFcfl0FqP4BCXUaQ2Kuc-KRp_vzM8A4LXFpt8BNUp2oAtxBs4DIR_FcKTtDilSuN9J6xUASNExbzvFfbGr-8mUMu_nIgi_i0/s320/_DSC4204.JPG" width="211" />I pinned this quilt sometime ago from <a href="http://helenphilipps.blogspot.com/2014/10/cosy-crafting.html">Helen Philipps Blog</a>. I liked the simple square and loved the quilting. Since I am such a beginner, I though this would be a simple quilt to try.<br />

I am using Michael Miller All The Trimmings and Bella Solids in Snow<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Here it is all pieced and ironed. I'm going to add a border, but don't have the right fabric. I hate to not finish, before I go onto my next project, but the Christmas fabrics aren't really out in the stores I've been to. Hopefully this summer I will find the right border and backing.<br />
<br />
Until then, I'm off to check out my fabric box and find my next project.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think it turned out quite nice. This was my first time binding with the backing fabric. It was much easier for me than using separate binding. I haven't mastered binding yet on the machine, but some day.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOJOCnl6aAJ9WHtKpdgEAZjEzDO8DscN1TqdURUSdRiMb7B7joFwCpex4IucDiRwNMQhWj7XQb9Mo2a5irpStrlfc6d6V1SQeBuGLYc4dfSEGyHAqk83qvHyMpQYl_k9A-xm_Ckzd2-nLy/s1600/IMG_1414%255B1%255D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOJOCnl6aAJ9WHtKpdgEAZjEzDO8DscN1TqdURUSdRiMb7B7joFwCpex4IucDiRwNMQhWj7XQb9Mo2a5irpStrlfc6d6V1SQeBuGLYc4dfSEGyHAqk83qvHyMpQYl_k9A-xm_Ckzd2-nLy/s320/IMG_1414%255B1%255D.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So here are my last two quilts. I need to Sarah of <a href="http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/p/hands2help_11.html">Hands2Help</a> for the mailing address.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well I'm off to decide what quilt to do next........</div>

<br />
Yesterday was a beautiful day finally. Sunny and low 60's. My sis and I had planned a road trip to Shipshewanna for the flea market season opener. We walked alot and enjoyed the weather. The flea market was a bit to "fleay" for me. Lots of the same things over and over. Where do all these vendors buy a package of 10 toothbrushes they can sell for $1?<br />
<br />
The we headed to town, had lunch and stopped in to <a href="http://www.yoderdepartmentstore.com/fabric.aspx">Yoder's Department Store</a>. Let me tell you they have the best fabric selection. They may be my new favorite place to shop for fabric, even though they are over an hour away. I saw so many collections and precuts (which as a beginner I love). All the great collections I see on line they have. Amazing<br />
<br />
As a bonus, they have a great shoe department for casual shoes and I'm a casual girl (well getting to be old lady, but we settle for girl today).<br />
<br />
My sister Patti, who isn't a quilter, has been watching me quilt on her new sewing machine she leaves at my house (what a great sister). She bought some charm packs of Dot Dot Dash, a layer cake of For You and a layer cake of Nocturne with some backing fabric.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
So today is a rainy cold day, all the better to start quilting Quilt #9. Here is my sandwich for today:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoc_1Xmci7tZONXIdixDRjI4gHmCHBeGpG02AN-u5vSZzbpSXJO5zrNK4fCSUUHz0x0clV8pEXonSpmW33yXkv3YJYpJ07rBu_cQGtT7CqPCPTj8pf2yWHsYhvZl0Bftv4ukzXnvUnzsPl/s1600/IMG_1407%255B1%255D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoc_1Xmci7tZONXIdixDRjI4gHmCHBeGpG02AN-u5vSZzbpSXJO5zrNK4fCSUUHz0x0clV8pEXonSpmW33yXkv3YJYpJ07rBu_cQGtT7CqPCPTj8pf2yWHsYhvZl0Bftv4ukzXnvUnzsPl/s320/IMG_1407%255B1%255D.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So after I get my 10,000 steps in for today, then I can get on with quilting. Here is to a great day.</div>

So what else should I do, start another quilt. I had bought a charm pack from <a href="https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/51554/riley-blake/samantha-walker/parade-on-main-5-stackers">Parade on Main</a> from MSQC.<div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once I square up all my blocks, I need to make a decision. Which pattern to choose. I like each of them, but not sure which way to go. So I'll think about it today and decides once my squaring up is done. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I plan to add a red border around the front, not sure of how wide yet. Might then follow up with a small white border, since I'm going to bind with the backing. Here is the backing, as well as a navy, which I may throw into a border too.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
More decisions, I love to use a pattern, then most of the decisions are done for you. But this isn't really a pattern, so I'm on my own, which scares me, as I am a newby and don't really trust my decisions yet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One day I'll get there, but for today, I am off on errands and then spending the evening working on this quilt.</div>

<br />
I quilted the top by machine. I would love to say my machine, but it is not. My sister bought a <a href="http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/en-US/Machines/SAPPHIRE-930">Viking Platimum 930</a> and she leaves it at my house. Not sure why, but I'm not asking any questions or pushing it to go home. It is very happy here at my house.<br />
<br />
After I finished the quilting, I added the binding and hand stitched it. Today it will be washed and ready to go. <a href="http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/2016/04/hands2help-story-of-charity-and-time-to.html">Hand 2 Help</a> here she comes.<br />

That wasn't too bad. It took me two mornings, but I wasn't in any hurry. This morning I put together the binding strips, ironed and clipped to the quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So now it is time to start putting on the binding. </div>
